GENERAL INFORMATION

Name:
Bradley Keyes
Sex:
Male
Country:
United States
Occupation:
Web / Software Developer

Bio:

I grew up in New City, NY - about 20 miles north of New York City - in a loving and nurturing environment. I loved sports, and played most of them, focusing on track and field in high school. I did well in high school finishing my senior year with mostly AP classes - the best by far was my physics class with Mr. Neumann.
I spent four years at Penn State, studing Electrical Engineering and competing in the decathlon on the Track and Field team. I met and fell in love with my wife, Margot, during our sophomore year.
After school we moved to Minnesota where our four daughters where born, and where we lived for 12 years.
Being fed up with taxes and politics, I fortunately discovered the Free State Project in 2003. After a vist to the first PorcFest in 2004 my wife and I decided to move to New Hampshire and join the project.
We moved in early 2005 and have never regretted the decision.

Interests:

My focus is on my family - four beautiful girls and my wonderful wife. Homeschooling has brought a focus and intense interest in the learning process - what is necessary, what is sufficient, how if can be done.
The question of how can one raise healthy, happy, independant children is of primary interest to me.
I've been designing software since my early teens. I do it professionally and as a hobby. I'm currenlty most interested in web based applications, but I'm always playing with something new.
Music and literature have always been a big part of my life. From Rush to Ayn Rand to Nana Mouskouri to Victor Hugo, there are too many favorites to list here.
I'm currenlty focused on what I call 'The Art of Liberty', and trying to find and promote artists whose messages resonate with a free life. If there's any chance of liberty taking hold, a culture of liberty will need to be built up to support it. Hopefully, I can help contribute to this.
Other random interests that I have are:

  • mysterious and unexplained phenomena - which I've been fascinating with as far back as I can remember
  • technology and science - all kinds
  • self-sufficency (yes I know no one can be fully self-sufficient - perhaps preparedness is better)

I have always enjoyed physical activity and sports. For general fitness I play games with my girls and do Crossfit in my garage.
I currently spend more time rock climbing than anything else. I love volleyball, and up until a year ago I had been playing it year round for almost 20 years. My heart belongs to track and field even though I don't participate at the moment. I hope to run in some Masters competitions in the future.

Column by Bradley Keyes. Exclusive to STR I have been the Friday editor for Strike The Root for almost two years. I have enjoyed being an active part of the site but I will soon stop being the Friday guest editor in order to focus my time on some other projects. The primary Editor will need someone to replace me, and I know he sometimes has problems finding people willing to sign up. I figured I...

Column by Bradley Keyes Exclusive to STR Towns and families ripped apart by war, neighbors turned against neighbors, fathers against sons and daughters, all without a shot fired or an “enemy” in sight. Copperhead, The Movie, presents the conflicts and tragedies of war far from the battlefields. Director Ron Maxwell, whose previous works include Gettysburg and Gods and Generals,...
Secret Terror Script Leaked

Column by Bradley Keyes. Exclusive to STR The Department of Homeland Security has apparently been too clever for its own good. They put together a Terrorist Interdiction Field Manual in the form of multiple scripts as an aid to their field agents to help them get into their undercover roles properly. It appears that some poor soul within the Department mistook the highly-classified document for a...
