"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
US Government Shutdown Isn’t the Worst of It
The BBC believes the worst of it is the potential for the United States to default on its debt payments. The government slammed up against its $16.699 trillion debt ceiling back in May. And, that's before all the Obamacare expenses soon to come, paying the IRS trackers and armed enforcers and whatnot. That's really funny. The BBC says that like that debt is ever going to be paid. I like that explanation of a trillion that was going around a few years ago. If you spent one million dollars a day, every day, from the day Christ was said to have been born, today, you still would not have spent a trillion. It gives a good understanding of the enormity of the numbers we're talking here. We are so far past repayment, and they still spend at breakneck speed. It is all meaningless.
