It’s always annoying hearing about people using the hammer of the state to force their agenda on everyone else. It’s particularly distressing when that person is just a child.

Meet Justin Kvadas who has decided second hand smoke is such a health risk to children that smoking should be banned from automobiles. “If you can’t eat, drink or talk on a cell phone while driving, how come you can still smoke? It can be just as dangerous, or more dangerous.” He is now in the process of petitioning the Connecticut state legislature to initiate just such a ban. I guess Justin has never been exposed to the method of peaceful persuasion to bring about change.

He has the support of his mother and has even been named “Person of the Week” be ABC News.  Talk about child abuse.

“A Republican state lawmaker from Baytown, Texas has filed a bill that would charge parents of public school students with a Class C misdemeanor and fine them for playing hooky from a scheduled parent-teacher conference.”

The Chicago Tribune (maybe rr, bugmenot) informs us that several towns in the Chicago area are temporarily lifting their smoking bans for the upcoming football games. While I’m no fan of either sports or smoking, of course this is welcome news to any libertarian. But the real question is, why just a temporary ban of the bans? The only logical explanation I can think of is that some of the alderman are Bears fans. And smokers. Or they own bars.

Can the Washington fascists get any spookier? Nothing they have done or tried to do has been a surprise, thus far. What will they come up with next?

Planned Parenthood wants to have laws that force pharmacists to carry the “morning after pill:”

Planned Parenthood wants to make sure pharmacists “won’t intimidate or harass a patient” by opting out of dispensing a controversial drug. Karen Brauer with Pharmacists for Life International says that language would apply to pharmacists who explain to customers that the ‘morning-after pill’ sometimes acts as an abortifacient, and they won’t distribute it on moral grounds.

I think that pharmacies should be forced to carry weed for my convenience. It’s my “right,” after all. That they don’t is clearly intimidation towards me.

You know one lives in a hopelessly befuddled “nation” when anybody would be confused enough to suggest that the decision of a pharmacist to refuse to offer some or another drug for sale is seen as constituting a positive act of “intimidation” or “harassment” towards women desiring the morning-after pill.
