"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Why Personal Finance Knowledge Should be Imparted to Teens
Exactly. Like failing to teach kids about politics and economics, leaving them unprepared to be true citizens and guard their rights, parents fail to teach kids about money. Not me, I've taught my kids since they were toddlers. They fail to teach them how to parent, how to run a household, how to deal with problems, stress, relationships. The don't teach them how to look and really see, to assess, to think. Most addicts I know were never taught coping skills, concrete methods of dealing with negative emotions. Parents don't teach communication skills, conflict resolution, problem solving strategies... I find it shocking. We are supposed to provide kids with the information and tools they needs to function as independent adults able to create fulfilling relationships and lives. So many parents think if they send them to school, feed them, clothe them, drive them to sports practice, and get them into college, they've done their jobs. Yet, they barely scratch the surface of parenting and teaching, and somehow are completely oblivious of that.
