What I find most interesting about this long fought battle, during which the governor has been twice threatened with a contempt of court charge, is how hard the prison system, with state government backing, is trying to hold on to their prisoners. A huge proportion are non-violent drug offenders, meaning they shouldn't be there anyway. What this is really, of course, is a money fight. Prison industry salaries, benefits, and pensions have to come from somewhere.
