These are pictures and images from Somalia, how it was before the long war and civil unrest period, which still lasts. I shot them in the early eighties, when there was time window during which taking pictures was allowed. They were all slides which I scanned with, often, a modest result in terms of quality. I believe, however, that some of the pictures may have for someone a value, at least judging from the several people originally from Somalia who expressed an interest in getting copies of them or even exhibit some of them in thematic exhibitions. Pictures are from Mogadishu, Merca, Brava and villages along the Juba river in the South. At that time, in early 80's, there were no pirates and islamic fundamentalism. The foundation of Jihadism were probably being set, but they were not visible under Siad Barre. Paradoxically enough, with the eyes of today, Mogadishu was one of the safest cities in Africa.
