"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Paranoid, Delusional Scotland Yard Feared A Coup By Star Trek Fans
Submitted by A. Magnus on Wed, 2015-05-20 00:00
"This week, it was reported by the Guardian that “Trekkies”, or Star Trek fanatics, were labeled as a possible threat by British police. A hidden Scotland Yard document has recently revealed that police feared that Sci-Fi fans could potentially “turn on society” or “start a cult.” The file was undated, but it is alleged to have originated around 1998 or 1999. The document also listed concern about other popular shows at the time such as X-Files."
