Truncating the Antecedents: Addendum on 9/11 and the Present Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq
"?If Franklin D. Roosevelt had been as artless as George W. Bush in his oratory, he might have dispensed with his speech about the ?date which will live in infamy? and so forth and simply told the country on December 8, 1941, that the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor ?changed everything?. Of course, the Bush administration's account of the ?unprovoked? 9/11 attacks, allegedly carried out only because some fanatical Muslims ?hate us for our freedoms?, is another classic case of truncating the antecedents, which in this instance stretch back through more than sixty years of U.S. interventions in the Middle East?.? Posted by Robert Higgs at The Beacon, the new blog of the Independent Institute."
