"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Pentagon Budget OK'd But War Funding Looms
"The House gave overwhelming approval Thursday to a massive defense spending bill, awarding the Pentagon a $40 billion budget increase but leaving the question of war financing unresolved. The $471 billion bill, passed 400-15, does not include President Bush's $196 billion request for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, except for an almost $12 billion infusion for new troop vehicles that are resistant to roadside bombs." They run that headline as if there were some chance Congress would stand in the way of Bushie's war money...Of course they'll give in...they picked their battle, it was water projects...murder and mayhem can't hold a candle to such a critical issue.
