"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Low-Income Uninsured Adults Less Likely to Have Chronic Conditions Compared With Medicaid Enrollees
Naturally, because there is less diagnosing and prescribing for pseudo-sicknesses when there isn't insurance or Medicaid to pick up the bill for office visits and prescriptions. Furthermore, the low-income uninsured are “less likely to have chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia” because, as researchers say they found during the study, they “were less likely to be obese and sedentary.” They're too busy hustlin' a living to sit around packin' the pounds on, and staying active probably also keeps them from needing that number two most prescribed drug category in the U.S. – anti-depressants.
