Lewis Wickes Hine (September 26, 1874 – November 3, 1940) was an American sociologist and photographer. He is famous for, among other things, photo-documenting child labor and a major force in the child labor law movement. Last year, my girls were giving me a bit of a hard time regarding chores, so I assigned them a writing task -- a detailed report on the daily lives of children 100 years ago. The girls gained a valuable sense of perspective on the matter. They also found Hine’s photos very interesting and I hope you do, too.
