"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Is Government Inevitable?
Submitted by KenK on Fri, 2015-03-27 00:00
“Inspired by Holcombe's (2004) argument that government is inevitable, this paper reconsiders some of his claims. We contend that his argument fails on two counts: it both fails to show that anarchy must break down and that limited government will not. ... We discuss the problems with Holcombe's theoretical arguments as well as historical evidence that casts doubt on his claims.”
