"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
How A $50 Meth Deal And A Botched SWAT Raid Left A Baby Maimed
This is exactly the sort of unjustifiable brutality and heinously lawless behavior that will make revolt feel like a justified response, like the right thing to do. Outside of the most rabid, frothing at the mouth drug war supporter, nobody, not even law and order traditionalists would try to justify a military assault style SWAT team no knock dynamic entry over a petty $50 crime that took place outside of the house. That flashbang grenade blew that child's nose right off his face, put a hole in his chest and left severe, life-threatening burns.
The cops lied to the parents, saying the child was just fine, refused to let them see him, didn't inform them even of what hospital the child was taken to, let alone the horrific extent of the injuries, until hours later. They made snide, arrogant comments, blaming the parents for the child's injuries, saying it was their fault for having a child in a house being raided. They initially refused to pay the $1 million in medical bills, just the start, as there are several more surgeries ahead, but public outrage and negative publicity changed their tune on that.
There were, as usual, no consequences for the officers, no criminal, civil or employment penalties. This sort of thing isn't rare. It happens all the time these days. Even with public outcry, such incidents haven't slowed down. In fact, they've continued to increase as police forces continue to get military grade equipment, tanks, weapons, etc. The refusual to hold officers accountable for their crimes against the people has not gone unnoticed.
