"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Gentrification often Means Higher Property Tax Bills, But Not in South Carolina
Submitted by Emmett Harris on Tue, 2014-10-21 00:00
“Essentially, property taxes on an owner-occupied home can't rise significantly as long as a person owns the home, even if property values around them soar. In fact, long-time homeowners can end up with lower tax bills when surrounding property values rise.” It still makes no sense that one has to pay perpetual rent to government to “own” a home, but this policy is not as onerous as many others.
