"The typical economic argument for free trade focuses on the increased material prosperity that trade creates for nearly everyone. While this argument is powerful and backed by overwhelming empirical support, it tends to leave many people cold. A common reaction to free-trade arguments might be: "You economists care only about low prices and more stuff; there's more to life than things.""
