"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Four Words to Change the World

“ ‘My farm is here’ are four words to save the world. But if they are to save the world, they must be careful never to aspire to any such grand and worldly program. They must teach the man in whose ears they fall,[...], that the first order of business is to reduce things to the scale of his own competence, and that means endeavoring to be nowhere else but ‘here.’ ” It’s okay to read and ponder the great works of philosophy, economics, and history, but learning how to grow tomatoes, raise chickens, or repair trucks will help you just as much, if not more.
