"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Female Inmates Sterilized In California Prisons Without Approval
“The allegations echo those made nearly a half-century ago, when forced sterilizations of prisoners, the mentally ill and the poor were commonplace in California. State lawmakers officially banned such practices in 1979.” That sort of thing was done for decades after gaining popularity during the eugenics movement that arose during Progressive Era of the early 1900s. At the height of the eugenics movement, women with 'bad blood' actually had to go to court, where it was determined if they would be allowed to have children or if they would be forced by the state to be sterilized. “Bad blood” was a family history of alcoholism, crime, or poverty, as well as having people in the family line that suffered mental illness or retardation of some sort. Native Americans suffered the same forced sterilization fate at different points in history. It never has really gone away since begun by the progressives a century ago. It's just gone underground a bit. I expect a major resurgence before too long. I hear more and more of leftie authoritarians talking about how people should be required to have a license or some other official permission slip to have children. And, they mean it.
