"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken

It is an interesting read, including the whole 'they put crack in my cookies, so it's not my fault that I can't control myself and now I'm fat and sick' thread that runs through it. Of late, I've been completely fascinated by the utter refusal to accept personal responsibility and the near absolute denial of even its existence that I see on all levels of society about damn near every issue and consequence. It is, to me, one of the most amazing cultural trends I have ever seen. I would be hard-pressed to come up with a more destructive, disempowering mind-set. No wonder the state worshiping lefties love it so.
