"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
EMP and Liberty
Note from Guest Editor- "The following is a solid article on EMP threats etc, while I do not personally agree with the Pro-Israel stance this does not detract from the benefits of knowledge in this particular article."
In my last Caveman article, I wrote about the decision as to whether a preemptive action should be taken to prevent a rogue country from attacking another country. That decision revolves around the question of how to protect the liberty of all parties to a maximum extent, but at the same time, make sure that allowing liberty to the rogue country doesn’t end up in a disaster. Israel was used as an example where Islamists outright claim their intention to destroy the Jewish country. Given adequate intelligence as to true intentions, I concluded that a preemptive strike was justified from a liberty viewpoint. In this article, I explore another potential calamity, the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) caused by the high-altitude explosion of a nuclear weapon.
