"By pursuing his own interest [every individual] frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it. I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the public good." ~ Adam Smith
The Osama Recruiters
"I think that some heads should roll over Iraq," said retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni. "I've been called a traitor and a turncoat for mentioning these things."
Everywhere you look, recruiting offices have been set up to enlist fanatics and loyal followers of Osama Bin Ladin. The success rate is difficult to determine, but new recruits flock to the Al Qaida cause in increasing numbers. Journalist Jo Wilding, an aid worker, observed U.S. Marine snipers shooting civilians in Fallujah. For every Iraqi killed, another half dozen friends and family members become convinced Osama was correct when he observed: "Our acts are reaction to your own acts, which are represented by the destruction and killing of our kinfolk in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine." Each sniper bullet that is fired becomes a clamor for recruitment to the Bin Ladin cause. Each ambulance driver or school kid or pregnant woman killed brands America a pariah nation, a virus to be contained, and sways more sympathy to that "Most Wanted Terrorist": Osama Bin Ladin. The recruitment process continues day and night and the ranks swell visibly. Those who blindly hack at the branches of evil--military snipers for example--only serve to spur the tangled vine to more vicious and luxuriant growth.
Unfortunately, the Office of Homeland Security remains indifferent to these "Coalition terrorist cells," operating in Iraq from rooftops, often under the direction of Israeli Defense Forces. Even worse than these military snipers, who have explicit orders from above, some highly organized and well-financed Bin Ladin recruiters operate openly, right here in America with state approval, as we shall see.
For bizarre reasons of their own, the US Media--newspapers, radio and television media--display an insidious motivation to openly recruit for Osama. By creating a demon in Bin Ladin, the continual siege mentality of "us against them" can be maintained. Thus the capture of Bin Ladin would be the worst thing that could happen to these spinmeisters of "news" until another demon could be hastily created to take his place. The worst of the bunch, The New York Times, The New York Post and The New York Daily News, pound the war drum incessantly, each virulently anti-Semitic (Arabs are Semites too, but our media rarely tells us this), actively imperialist, proving Osama's point once again: "Reality proves our truthfulness . . . the killing of Europeans was after their invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan; and the killing of Americans on the day of New York was after their support of the Jews in Palestine and their invasion of the Arabian Peninsula."
The pestilent New York Post, a tabloid for the working class New Yorker, a citizenry completely beguiled by his media into the official government version of the attack on NYC, serves as a mouthpiece for that epaulet of a country, Israel, rather than a respected broadsheet of the American Republic. The New York Times--like The Wall Street Journal--a tabloid but without color pictures, maintains a pretense of objectivity by amassing the over-hyped Pulitzers. On a national scale, media giants Fox and CNN vie to see who can spin the most elaborate recruitment schemes through distorted stories that resemble journalism only in form rather than substance.
Television talking heads serve wonderfully as recruiters, as efficiently as those so-called, hate-spewing Muslim schools that O'Reilly and Limbaugh always condemn. Hate breeds hate, thus Hannity and Colmes and Savage and that peacemaker, Daniel Pipes serve as excellent sleeper cells for the recruitment of Osama supporters, thousands of whom may be awakening right next door to your home, or serving undercover in hundreds of gas stations and mini-marts all over America, incensed by the spewers of hate posing as patriots.
Pentagon recruiters, disguised as loyal Americans but with foreign-sounding names--Wolfowitz, Perle, Rumsfeld--loudly proclaim the war on terror and the hunt for Bin Ladin. But how does state-sanctioned terror diminish terror?
Once again we turn to Osama's own words to fully appreciate how the Pentagon sleeper cells are actually doing Osama Bin Ladin's work for him while he actually sleeps! "The greatest rule of safety is justice, and stopping injustice and aggression," remarked Osama Bin Ladin, our former CIA operative and Freedom Fighter in Afghanistan. "It was said: Oppression kills the oppressors, and the hotbed of injustice is evil. The situation in occupied Palestine is an example. What happened on 11 September and 11 March (the Madrid bombings) is your commodity returned to you." Thus terror breeds terror, as the recruiters well know, and the next generation of terrorists stare us in the face as adolescent boys wielding AK-47s. Like a bad Hollywood movie, the sequels will just keep on coming, almost as if they were planned.
Telegenic US generals, aligned with think tanks and military contractors, must be torn between two loyalties: loyalty to American ideals which they were once sworn to protect, or loyalty to rich contracts for billion dollar war toys. As a great man once said, you cannot serve God and Mammon without secret disloyalty to one or the other. By pitching the pursuit of Bin Ladin on Fox and CNN to gullible Americans, through costly incursions into countries where Bin Ladin never lived, these retired generals openly recruit the fence-sitting locals of the invaded and occupied country to embrace the Osamic doctrine. Yet consider: If a handful of Interpol agents working secretly with a half dozen Mossad agents could have arrested Osama in two weeks time--which they easily could have done--the fictitious and costly "War on Terror" would never have happened. But the wasteful expenditure of billions of dollars on military war toys promotes a new loyalty to a vast segment of retired generals who once bravely commanded respect.
The horde of Old Testament Christians (OTC)--rapturous Americans who disregard the teachings of the New Testament--spew venom unseen since the Spanish Inquisition. Able recruiters of Osama and Al Qaida, they preach a renegade doctrine more akin to Atilla the Hun than Jesus Christ, certain that what JC really meant when he mistakenly uttered His most famous teaching was The Sermon on the Gun Mount. Lockstep loyalists of the Bush Doctrine, the OTC pursue their own agenda--US military might and Israel's total occupation of the former Palestine. They do so--as Osama once again says--"to please the liar of the White House. Had (Bush) been truthful about his claim for peace, he would not describe the person who ripped open pregnant women in Sabra and Shatila [a reference to Sharon] and the destroyer of the capitulation process [a reference to the peace process] as a man of peace."
Thus we have a handful of the most highly organized and well-financed groups advocating hundreds of Osama imitators. If the Office of Homeland Security would lean on these major offenders, these covert recruiters of Al Qaida, the terror alerts would fall off the color scale and the "War on Terror" would end. But then maybe the OHS would itself be unnecessary, as would the entire Neocon agenda, and that is why dissenters like General Anthony Zinni are branded traitors for seeing things so clearly, regarding the Iraq War, and having the guts to speak out as a loyal American.
