"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
Computer's Appearance on Jeopardy! More Than Just a Numbers Game
Submitted by Melinda L. Secor on Sun, 2011-01-16 04:00
“On the surface, it has all the makings of a gimmick: pitting the greatest champion in the history of the TV game show Jeopardy! against a computer opponent, much like chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov took on supercomputer Deep Blue more than a decade ago. But behind IBM’s latest media event is an audacious scientific goal: to bridge the gap between artificial and human intelligence.” Interesting, but I'm not entirely sure I want a computer that can understand EVERYTHING I say.
