A Letter to Friends of Sam Johnson by Roger Young I recently received a fundraising solicitation from "Friends of Sam Johnson," who represent my Congressman here in the 3rd district of Texas. Mr. Johnson is a Republican who in the past seemed to be an advocate of limited government and liberty, though a quiet one. You rarely ever see this guy on TV, even the local media. His voting record, however, showed him to be more of a friend than an enemy. I guess that's what counts. Mr. Johnson was also a POW during the Vietnam War. Since the beginning of Bush's War, Mr. Johnson has preferred loyalty to his fellow Republican Texan than to his principles. He has supported every state power-grabbing scheme out there, including the notorious USA PATRIOT Act and federalizing airport baggage screeners. I was understandably offended when I received a letter actually asking me to give money to this guy. So I made good use of the postage-paid envelope that was provided and sent the campaign workers a letter that professed my thoughts. I recommend everyone do this as a form of resistance. It also may force whoever reads this letter to use the grey matter between their ears for a few moments and put aside their froth-at-the-mouth nationalism. You may even create a convert! Anyway, here's the letter: BAAAAA!!!!!!! BAAAAA!!!!!! BAAAAA!!!!!!!! Dear Mr./Ms. Sheep, Glad to see you’re working hard, trying to extort still more treasure from us working serfs out here; all of us just waiting for a new opportunity to serve and fund the American Empire which Mr. Johnson serves so dutifully. I guess he needs more time in Congress to massacre more innocents in the name of American hegemony. It seems that about 5,000 souls and counting, slaughtered in Afghanistan, is not enough dead to satisfy his blood lust. Well, at least we caught that bin Laden guy, right? Of course, let us not forget the $2 trillion per year you and he wrench from the bank accounts of working families and successful, heroic businesses for their own protection. How could any thinking person have the gall to think that little pittance would be even close to enough money to keep a van full of ungrateful fools armed with box cutters from crashing airplanes into our buildings! Pshaw! We’ll need much more than that, right? Well guess what? You’ll have to send your federale’ goons to shake down and scrag me before I would willfully give up one penny to any politician’s campaign, let alone a hypocritical coward like Mr. J. It seems that the congressman didn’t learn to appreciate what liberty really is while he was rotting away in that North Vietnamese prison. Instead he learned well from his captors how to control, manipulate, deceive, and intimidate, which he and his fellow bandits in Congress do to us peasants on a daily basis. And how about those prisoners in Cuba? What does Sammy think of that? When Vietnamese gooks or Somali warlords treat big, bad Americans that way he’s ready to launch the nukes. But when the tables are turned, “war heroes” like Mr. J become strangely quiet. Hypocritical? Naw! I’d really like to contribute to your campaign, Mr./Ms Sheep but I’m a little short right now. I got this little tax bill (I’m sorry, “contribution”) due shortly that I have to take care of. Maybe I’ll get back to you later. Feel free to hold your breath while you wait. Sincerely, Roger Young SEE SOME OF THE CONGRESSMAN’S FINE WORK:
Afghans with no food, medicine or firewood (hey, but at least they’ll have democracy!) No bamboo and dirt for our POW’s--nothing but the finest manacles, blinders, gravel and steel.
