Freedom Fighters Wanted by Jack Rain Are you a regular visitor to STR? Do you enjoy the original columns posted at this site? Do you look forward to Rob’s daily posting of interesting and insightful links? Do you visit the STR Forum from time to time? Do you understand that the fight for liberty against government tyranny is an extremely important fight? If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, then you need to read on. You see, despite the continuing growth of STR, it is still pretty much a one-man show. It pretty much begins and ends with the never ending dedication of Rob. And now it is time to take STR to the next level. For that to occur, Rob is going to need some help. All of you can help. Recently, I wrote a column asking for monetary donations, and I want to publicly thank those who responded. I keep an eye on the STR front page Supporters column, so I know who you are. Thank You Very Much. And I am sure there are others who meant to make a donation but were sidetracked for one of a hundred different reasons that day. If you have the bucks, but were sidetracked, consider this your second request. Please help now and click here. There is still a lot you can do right now to help STR. You see, the key to STR’s continuing growth and influence is for more and more people to simply become aware that STR exists. You can help with this. You can help by telling your friends about STR. You can help by placing a line at the bottom of your e-mails that goes something like this: "I read www.strike-the-root.com every day." Or make up your own creative tag line. If there is a column from a Root Striker you find particularly interesting or insightful, you can post a link to the column in other chat rooms and discussion forums. This is very helpful for STR. The posting of these links drives considerable new traffic to STR from internet users who may have not previously known about STR. This is probably the most important thing you can do for STR regularly and often. If you are not familiar with any chat rooms or forums on the topic you would like to post on, do a Google search on the topic. You will be a amazed at what you find. There are specialized chat rooms and discussion groups on all kinds of topics. We need to reach out to these people and let them know about STR. If you are a high school or college student, you can design a flyer explaining STR that you can post on school bulletin boards. You can form a discussion group on your campus based around a topic in an STR column. Use the STR column as the starting off point for your discussion group. Such a discussion group will not only help STR, it will be a good way for you to meet independent and/or like-minded thinkers on your campus. If any of you are going to anti-war protests, design a flyer about STR and hand it out at the protests. Be creative. There are lots of ways to help get the word out on STR. For those of you who visit STR and also buy books online, consider coming to the STR front page first. Scroll down the front page to the Amazon link or the Laissez Faire Books link before you buy and click through; that way (at no extra cost to you), STR will earn a small commission on your purchase. Finally, STR needs volunteers. Often I e-mail Rob with different thoughts and ideas for STR. On some occasions, Rob will indicate he wants to move ahead with whatever the project is. But some of these projects you still haven’t seen reflected on the web pages of STR because, well, Rob is pretty much that one-man show, and his ideas and my ideas often far supersede the time constraints of one man. With some of my more grandiose ideas, Rob just e-mails me back telling me that he just doesn't have the time and/or money. So we need all kinds of volunteers, from people who can help us with different postings and computer work to copy editors (who can tell me where to put commas). In fact, whatever your special talent, it may be something STR may be able to use now or in the future. I will be meeting with Rob in the next couple of weeks, mapping out a strategy for STR. As part of those meetings, I would like to present to Rob a sense for what type of resources we have available to us. So whatever you can do to help STR, from the all-important posting of column links in chat rooms to your availability for other volunteer work and any special talents or expertise you may have, please e-mail me and let me know how you can help. And to take a great line from the movie Casablanca, "Welcome to the fight . . . ." discuss this column in the forum Jack Rain is a traveler and observer of world events. |
