I Have a Dream

 by Jack Rain

I have a recurring dream that one morning I wake up, check out Strike The Root on my computer, and see a bright blue banner that contains an apology from Rob M., editor of STR.

The apology says that so many people have contributed to STR that Rob can no longer fit them all on the front page and that he has supplied a link to a page that contains all the contributors' names.

I have taken it upon myself to make this happen. You see, while there are many visitors to this site--over 10,000 last Saturday alone--the contributions are meager. Look to the right on the front page yourself. There are only about a dozen names.

I think the major reason for this is because Rob M. is just too damn modest of a guy. Now I'm sure most visitors to STR visit other libertarian sites. And we all know that regular appeals, maybe once a month, are part of those sites. I ask you, have you ever seen an appeal from Rob M. at all, other than his banner? This should tell you something.

Now I have taken this project on, to fill a page with sponsors, all by myself, without any goading from Rob. Here's why.

STR is one of the most remarkable sites on the internet. Other well known libertarian sites are, for the most part, offshoots of organizations or publications. When their sites went up, they had a base of members or subscribers that they could advise about their sites. Do you know what Rob's initial base was? Zero.

And yet, STR has more regular visitors than many of those sites, and he is gaining very quickly on the big name sites. This is occurring for one reason and one reason only. Rob M. lives and breathes the cause of freedom. Because of the columns I write here, I can tell you for a fact that it is rare for Rob not to be working on STR.

I have emailed Rob morning, noon and night. 5:00 PM, 9:00PM and 3:00 AM, whatever the time, I usually receive a response to my email within minutes. The remarkable number of links Rob puts up every weekday is evidence enough of the time he puts in. I wonder how much time he can really spend at his income-producing financial planning business. The opportunity cost in lost wages because of the time he spends on STR has got to be enormous. He tells me he puts in eight hours a day on STR. I think it is more.

Now what is the result of all this hard work by Rob? We see it every day when we come to these pages. I consider it the modern day version of Paul Revere's ride, when Revere warned that the British were coming. Rob warns each of us every day that the government is coming. It is a message that we know has to be spread as far and wide as the internet can take it.

And when Rob isn't spreading the news of the government's ever increasing encroachment into our daily lives, he provides a forum for other freedom-loving writers to post their thoughts. I am truly awed by the original thinking in some of the columns that appear at STR.

These original thoughts are gaining an ever wider audience as each day goes by. STR is like a beautiful painting of the highest quality. Any intelligent, independent thinking person that visits the site once cannot help but be drawn in by its original and refreshing way to look at the world. Anyone who recognizes this beauty will come back time after time.

Because of my columns, I receive emails from all types of people who read STR. Because of the emails, I know there are Wall Street types who visit the site. I know there are students who visit the site. I know there are professors who visit the site. I know there are housekeepers who visit the site. I know there are doctors and lawyers who visit the site. And, there are just plain independent thinkers from all walks of life who visit this site.

They all visit this site because they know it is an important site in the battle for liberty. They know STR is on the front line of the battle. A Wall Street executive might not be able to take on the SEC because of the potential for retaliation against him. We can take on the SEC here. A pharmaceutical executive might not be able to take on the FDA. We can do that here.

A student may just want an alternative to the government apologists that flood the educational system. We provide that here.

In short, STR is many things to many people, and yet it is just one thing, a weapon in the fight against those who regularly attempt to trample on our freedom.

Now those of you who read my columns regularly know that I tend to do more than just have theoretical discussions. It's the same with this column. This is not a theoretical discussion. I would like to see Rob do a bit of guerrilla marketing to let people who may not be aware of this site know that it exists. This will cost money. It's time to cough up. Let's really put STR on the map. It is for our own freedom's sake and the sake of our children and grandchildren.

This is about helping out, in one of the best possible ways, in the battle for liberty. If government has ever pissed you off, you can finally do something about it by becoming a sponsor here. I want money to flow to Rob so that he knows people really appreciate the hours and hours of daily effort he puts in. I want money to flow to Rob so that he can take STR to the next level. You can really help. Please don't disappoint Rob. Make a contribution and let him know today that you understand and appreciate the important work he is doing.

Here are the buttons that will help you become a sponsor. Please act right now, you know those plotting to take your freedoms away are not waiting until later.

Thank you very much.

Help Us Grow

Goodness is the only investment that never fails.  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Hopefully you've enjoyed Strike The Root since I started it last year.  I know others have, because they've told me.  But as someone who seeks constant improvement, I want to make it better.  Indeed, I have big plans for STR.

I'm sure you've enjoyed some of the original columns by Root Strikers.  I'd like to attract more high-quality writers by paying them for their work.  But that takes money.  It also takes money to run this site.  I have to pay for web hosting, DSL service, an e-mail list service, etc.

So if you'd like to help me strike at the roots of evil, please make a donation.  If you donate at least $100, I'll include your name under "Supporters" on the main page (if you'd like me to) for a year.

If you donate via e-gold or GoldMoney, please put your e-mail address in the memo field or send me your e-mail address so I can thank you for your donation.

You can also donate monthly by clicking one of the buttons below.  Monthly donations are very much appreciated because it's money I can count on to help meet operating expenses.  If you sign up to donate monthly, I'll include your name under "Supporters" on the  main page (if you'd like me to) for as long as you donate monthly.

$10 $20 $30 $40 $50 $75 $100

If you can't or don't want to make a donation online, you can mail a check (e-mail Rob for details).

Thank you!
