Hooray For Hootie For Standing Up To Tyrannical Feminists Dr. Martha Burk has a lot of ball . . . ahem, nerve. In the name of the National Council of Women's (not Womyn's?) Organizations, she dares to demand Augusta National Golf Club admit women members to the club by the time next year's Masters rolls around. Why does the media take up the mantle for these groups every time they cry foul? Feminist groups have gotten a great deal of mileage from the creed "our bodies are our own," and the For Women Only chain of health clubs are okay with them too. I do not think I am the only one who notices the double standard at work here! If a woman's body is indeed her property (as should be every human beings, in my opinion) and they can have their own exclusionary health clubs, why are they then so upset by the members at Augusta exercising the same rights as private property owners? Augusta National is a private golf club. To put it simply, Mizz Burke has not any more right to tell the membership of a private organization who they should admit as members than Augusta chairman Hootie Johnson has to tell her who to invite to her next dinner party. Burke and her cohorts are typical practitioners of this hypocrisy that is commonplace in our world. In their view, it is perfectly acceptable for women to discriminate against men, or minority groups to discriminate against the majority in the matter of their right to freely associate with those of their choosing while denying others the same right. This, if I am correct, is what is called "progressivism." In his response, I feel Mr. Johnson is to be commended for his stance in the face of what will surely be a politically correct backlash against him and the soon to be referred to "misogynistic" members of Augusta National. According to Johnson, Burk's letter stated "this change should take place before the Master's Tournament next spring in order to avoid it becoming an issue." To which the chairman replied, "Our membership alone decides our membership--not any outside group with its own agenda.'' But Martha really shows her ignorance when she reports of her attempt to contact the sponsors of this event, the highest rated televised tournament in the world. She suggests that if Augusta National does not have female members, the Masters should move to another club. "The Masters, in my mind, is not tied at the hip to this club,'' she said. "An event of this profile could be held somewhere else.'' Well, the joke is on you Martha. You should have lost any credibility you might have had with that statement. The Masters cannot be held anywhere else, because the tournament belongs to Augusta National Golf Club. That's right--they started it in 1934, and it has never been held anywhere else because it it the member's invitational tournament. They own it, they operate it and they do it without the jurisdiction of the PGA Tour or any other professional sports organization. You can't move it, because it is belongs to them! So beat your breasts, organize your boycotts, and rally your troops for the cause. It remains to be seen if Mr. Johnson and the 300 members of the club continue their heroic stance, or bow to the winds of the progressive fascists. The truth is, your energies would be better spent getting women such as Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, Gloria Allred and Oprah Winfrey to pool your own money and build your own golf club. You could admit whomever you wish, and (probably to your surprise) I would be behind you 100 percent! To Hootie Johnson and the members of Augusta National Golf Club, please continue to stand firm for your rights of private property ownership and free association. If you cave in to these hypocritical storm troopers, who wish to retain those rights from themselves but refuse to grant you the same, you are just as guilty as they are of undermining the fundamental laws which have stood for centuries (see the work of John Locke), but are more endangered every day. |
