More Spin Control from AOL
Some privacy issues when you use AIM were revealed Friday in a
slashdot.com posting.

The terms would appear to indicate that anything generated using
AIM is fair game for AOL to use, which would mean private IM
communications are not so private.
"If a user posts content in a public
area of the service, like a chat room, message board, or other
public forum, that information may be used by AOL for other
purposes. One example of this might be a user who posts a
"Rate a Buddy" photo and thus allows AIM to post it for
other AIM users to vote on it. Another might be AOL taking an
excerpt from a message board posting on a current news issue and
highlighting it in a different area of the service".
But, AOL said that's not the case. The clause in question
specifically refers to something an AIM user might post in a
public forum, AOL says.
"In a subsequent phone conversation, AOL
bigshot Bob Weinstein said that AOL does not monitor AIM traffic,
and does not store it. A record of an AIM communication is not
saved in any storage medium at AOL, he said." Quoted from

So are you all feeling reassured now? Sheesh. People, what the
hell did you expect any how? AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and the rest offer
this service to you free for crying out loud. Free, as
no charge or fee for using our program and hardware. People on
the internet have such an entitlement mentality that it makes Ronald
Reagan's "Welfare Queens" seem positively magnanimus.
User's are free to shut their fookin' pie holes and make a
choice. To wit:
Put up with it, cause there isn't any privacy on the net anyhow, TANSTAAFL
Use an encryption program.
Purchase (as in un-ass your own money!) the use of a private network, or buy proprietary software from a firm or business that does guarantee (to the best of their ability), your privacy.
Not use IM's at all.
So there. Life is about making choices. So, make one, eh?
