Doug Newman's Columns
It Takes a Police State to Raise a Child
"... while schools have been gun-free zones for years, this do-gooderism did not prevent the orgy of blood at Columbine. The Harrises and Klebolds of the world do not give one flying rip about anyone’s little pantywaist gun laws. On that horrible morning in 1999, the students, faculty and staff were absolutely defenseless as those two little pukes sprayed bullets all over the school." Column by Doug Newman.
What's Wrong With Education? It's the Government, Stupid!
" It matters not how many of the 'right people' we put on the school boards and in the classrooms. This majority will only last until 'the other side' gets a majority in the legislature or the school board. If the folks on 'the other side' are so horrible, why do we open ourselves – and our children – to the possibility that they wield so much power?" Column by Doug Newman.
It's Your War! You Go Fight It!
" I have heard quite a bit of whining from people who never served in the military about the French 'wimping out' of the Iraq War. If it is 'wimping out' when the French won’t fight, what is it when you won’t fight? Yeah you, Rambo!" Column by Doug Newman.
D.C. & Vegas: A Tale of Two Sin Cities
"I frequently hear that if we let people do whatever they want – Vegas style – we will have anarchy! When you let people do whatever they want, you get Woodstock. When you let governments do whatever they want, you get Auschwitz. Which is worse?" Column by Doug Newman.
Civil Disobedience: A Christian Value
"The Bible is full of folks who said 'I -- or we -- don’t think so' to earthly governments." Column by Doug Newman.
Churches Promote the Worst Forms of Tyranny
" Most – not all, but most – pastors have sold out to an out-of-control federal government. They fear loss of their 501(c)(3) status should they become too critical of Caesar. Moreover, they fear that an unpopular statement from the pulpit may hurt them at the collection plate." Column by Doug Newman.
Let's Put Military Recruiters in Churches!
"Why is it 'wimping out' only when someone else refuses to fight?" Column by Doug Newman.
Seduced by Bush: It Must Be the Church Water
"But Bush said something about Jesus back in 2000. And when he did so, millions of Christians disengaged their brains. Many would rather die than read or hear an unkind word about their Great Christian Leader." Column by Doug Newman.
When It Is Time to Hang the Christians...
"Too many American Christians in the year 2005 say nothing and do nothing while their government rages out of control domestically and surrenders our sovereignty to the New World Order." Column by Doug Newman.
Dignity, Honor and 'Da Butt Dance'
"If [Bush] has this little influence in his immediate sphere, how can he 'instill family values' in millions of households from Maine to Hawaii and from Key West to the Aleutians? Where does anyone get this idea?" Column by Doug Newman.
Jihad for Jesus: Faith-Based Imperialism
"In early 2001, Dubya said America would be a 'humble nation.' Since 9-11, however, our mission is one of faith-based imperialism. It is hubris run amok. Like the Blues Brothers, we imagine ourselves on a mission from God waging a jihad for Jesus. We act as if America has some divine appointment to rule the world." Column by Doug Newman.
Just What Does 'Tyranny's End' Really Mean?
"The headline on USA Today’s web site said, 'Bush: Tyranny’s End a Major Commitment.' Cool, man! I'm down with that." Column by Doug Newman.
"The sad irony of 501(c) (3) is that, while churches compromise Scripture in order to avoid taxes, they remain silent about a tax code that inflicts far more harm on Christians than Ozzy Osbourne, Larry Flynt or Howard Stern ever possibly could." Column by Doug Newman.
Christian Compassion That Kills
"It is not Saddam Hussein who would rather see you die an excruciating death than be cured by marijuana. It is America’s own DOJ and DEA as well as our Great Compassionate Conservative Christian president and his groupies in churches across America." Column by Doug Newman.
Is America a Sudan Waiting to Happen?
"501(c)(3) says that a church can be exempt from taxation as long as it refrains from endorsing political candidates and watches its step regarding other political activities and pronouncements. It is bad enough that almost all churches censor themselves in order to please Caesar. It is downright damnable that so many of them refrain from any serious political discussion at all." Column by Douglas Newman.
"Today, millions of Americans still buy the lie that America is a free country." Column by Douglas Newman.
Why You Shouldn't Disarm Crazy People
"Disarming crazy people does not make them less crazy or less criminal. It just leaves law-abiding people defenseless." Column by Douglas Newman.
1-2-3 What Are We Fighting For?
"Terrorists can fly planes into buildings, drive vehicles into pizza shops, set off bombs and so forth. However, they cannot deprive thee and me of our freedom. Only our own government can do that. And they cannot do it without our blessing." Column by Douglas Newman.
Should Christians Always Obey Their Government?
"When full-blown persecution of Christians comes to America – and I believe it will – Christians will have no one but themselves to blame. For decades, they have gone right along with the riptide of the modern superstate, never seriously questioning it." Column by Doug Newman.
Pat Tillman: He Lifted a Finger
"As an American, you are entitled to your opinion....Quit speaking in the first person about how 'we' ought to bomb the crap out of this country and 'we' ought to pulverize that country. Instead, put down your remote and tell the boss you won’t be in tomorrow." Column by Doug Newman.
The Marriage Amendment: Both Sides Have It Wrong
"For years, [Pastor Trewhella] has been marrying couples without licenses. He has some fascinating things to say about why Christians should not obtain a marriage license. Pastor Trewhella quotes the Black’s Law Dictionary’s definition of a license as 'the permission by competent authority to do an act which without such permission, would be illegal.' Why do we need permission from the state to participate in something ordained by God? Also, when you obtain a license to marry, you give the state unbiblical authority over your marriage and over your children, as well as placing yourself under all sorts of immoral laws." Column by Doug Newman.
How About a National 'Do Not Tax' List?
"Likewise with the 'invasion of privacy' imposed by telemarketers. When someone calls your house at dinnertime, all they are is a voice on the other end of a line. They cannot spy on you or in any way pry into your personal or financial affairs. Governments, funded by taxes, impose the most egregious invasions of our privacy. Every year, as April 15 approaches, Uncle Sam, and his underlings in statehouses across the land, forces us to lay bare every last detail of our financial and personal affairs. We can tell telemarketers to @#$% off. However, we cannot write across all the various forms and schedules that the tax pigs tell us to fill out: 'It is none of your ^&*%#{@ business.'" Column by Doug Newman.
George W. Bush: Seeing the Big Picture
"The big picture of GWB has consisted of bigger government than ever, a frontal assault on our constitutionally guaranteed liberties and a culture of ever increasing hostility toward Christians and Christian values." Column by Douglas Newman.
"If Christians really want to influence America and build a nation pleasing to God, they need to end their worldly love affair with the modern megastate. They need to place far less emphasis on power, politics and policies and far more on their Real King." Column by Doug Newman.
Just Answer the Question, Mr. Limbaugh
"To hear Rush tell it, liberals give all sorts of mealy-mouthed answers when accused of wrongdoing while conservatives let their yes be yes and their no be no. Rush has built an empire lampooning the hypocritical behavior of liberals over the years. Now he is acting like one." Column by Doug Newman.
"Imagine a platoon composed entirely of chicken hawk politicians' sons staging a midnight raid on Baghdad. Imagine monkeys flying out of my eyeballs." Column by Doug Newman.
Clintonism Now! Clintonism Tomorrow! Clintonism Forever!
"As Governor Riley told the Birmingham News when announcing his tax hike proposal, 'Jesus says one of our missions is to take care of the least among us. We've got to take care of the poor.' I get it: We fulfill our Christian obligations through tax hikes." Column by Doug Newman.
"George W. Bush is the biggest tyrant and socialist ever to stink up the Oval Office. And those in the media who call themselves conservatives absolutely love him. What do they want to conserve? Oppressive taxation? The world's most lavish welfare state? A federal education department that they once wanted to abolish? Gun control?" Column by Doug Newman.
"When Bill Clinton was at the helm of the socialist superstate, there were some folks on talk radio opposing and exposing the advancement of tyranny in America. But now that GWB is in charge, and tyrannizing us even more, these folks sing the praises of every new encroachment upon our liberty." Column by Doug Newman.
Hey Nineteen (Or, America's True Constitution: Where Is It?)
"Today, too many of us could give a rip about our God-given freedoms as long as we feel good about who occupies the Oval Office and the intentions of their policies and agendas. Heaven forbid that contemporary Americans peel back the rhetoric and research the real-world implications of the policies that make them feel so tingly inside." Column by Doug Newman.
"In recent decades, we have taken the injunction to "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's" to mean that we should pay our taxes, sit down, shut up, and be totally uncritical of our government. Don't ask what things are Caesar's much less whether Caesar has any competence whatsoever in doing whatever it is you would like him to do. Jesus doesn't assign specific duties to Caesar." Column by Doug Newman.
God in Schools: They Just Never Seem to Get It
"Christians have become just like secular liberals in asking politicians, judges and other public officials to solve all their problems. They just never seem to get it. They never achieve religious freedom and an end to so much of the harassment they experience because they look to all the wrong people and institutions." Column by Doug Newman.
Famous Preachers or Invertebrate Bootlickers?
"Proverbs 25:26 states that 'A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain and a corrupt spring.' Our current tyrannical socialist form of government is wicked, evil and corrupt by its very nature, no matter who is in charge. When those to whom we look for guidance genuflect before it and remain silent about the evils it perpetrates, they have the same effect as a polluted spring or water supply. They spread ignorance and falsehood among their followers. The result is a dumbed down church, which is far more dangerous than a dumbed down school." An excellent column by Doug Newman.
It's the End of the Church as We Know It (I Don't Feel Fine)
"Bush's rationale for issuing this executive order was that he had difficulty getting his Faith Based Initiative through Congress. Well la-de-da. Is this how it will be from now on? Whenever a president does not get his agenda through Congress, will he just implement it by executive order?" Column by Doug Newman.
W, as in 'Wolf in Sheep's Clothing'
"I used to think that if Bill Clinton would drive this country over a cliff at 100 miles an hour, GWB would only do so at 96 miles an hour. I was wrong. Bush is taking away our freedoms at a greater rate than Clinton ever did." Column by Doug Newman.
James Dobson: Flaming Liberal?
"Columnist Cal Thomas has stated that, 'The power of a changed life is far greater than the power of the state.' If Dobson spent more time doing what he is extremely good at--ministering to individuals and families about day-to-day Christian living--and less time engaging in feel-good quick-fix social crusades, we would make more progress toward the kind of society Dobson and others desire." Column by Doug Newman.
We Don't Need a Pledge Amendment
"Republicans never get rid of anything that Democrats hath wrought. They just put their people in charge of it. The problem isn't Christianity and the problem isn't education. The problem is the state education monopoly. Forcing everyone into a one-size-fits-all education system is just as asinine as forcing everyone into one-size-fits-all clothing." Column by Doug Newman.
Bush's Assault on the Second Amendment
"Evil abhors a vacuum. When you disarm innocent people, as night follows day, bad things happen." Column by Doug Newman.
"The Drug War has become a veritable addiction for many of those who support it. While it may make its proponents feel good temporarily, it provides no solution to what is ultimately a moral and spiritual problem. Like so many hard core addicts, drug warriors are never satisfied: They constantly demand that we intensify the thing that makes them feel so good. Their ultimate high--a drug-free America--will never come to pass...." Column by Doug Newman.
Oscars, Streets, Hoops and Ping Pong Balls
Some thoughts on discrimination by Doug Newman.
"If Jesus never used force to accomplish His ends, then who are Christians to initiate force in the name of God?" Column by Doug Newman.
None Dare Call It Dictatorship
"Just because something sounds good, or just because voting for something makes you feel good, does not authorize the government to violate someone else's rights. Indeed, our current philosophy of government may be summarized in six words: If it sounds good, do it." Column by new Root Striker Doug Newman.
