"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~ H.L. Mencken
‘Nightmare Bacteria’ Spreading in Southeast U.S.
The nightmare factor in these and similar bacteria is the drug-resistance. The overuse of antibiotics in the agricultural and medical industries will soon put us medically almost where we were before antibiotics were discovered. Frightening yes, hopeless no. Now's the time to educate yourself and get prepared to deal with these types of sicknesses. There is plenty you can do to protect yourself and your family.
Washing your hands correctly is still one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself. Avoid large crowds when you can, especially during cold and flu season and particularly in enclosed, germ trapping spaces. Strengthen your immune system from the inside out by increasing fresh fruits and vegetables, and eliminating processed foods.
Learn your herbal remedies and natural antibiotics. The resistant bugs may not be immune to those, since those remedies haven't been the weapon of choice for a long, long time. Herbs and natural remedies tend to act a bit slower than pharmaeuticals, which is why they also tend to be easier on the body. That might not make much of a difference with the average bacteria or virus, but with one of these particularly vicious versions that roar though the body fast, it could.
However, while an antibiotic may not be able to defeat a resistant bug, it may be able to slow a fast-moving antibiotic-resistant bacteria or virus down enough to allow natural or herbal antibiotics the time they need to reach peak effectiveness within the body. Now's the time to do some studying, to get a medicinal herb garden going, even if it is just a little window box, and stock up on dried herbs, tinctures, and other supplies.
